Community Road Update – June 25-29

Please be advised of two upcoming roadway updates that may impact travel in the area:

US-191 (Mile Marker 61.3 to 63.3, Near Lava Lake) – Chip Seal Operations
Chip sealing will take place on Thursday, June 26th between 9:00am – 7:00pm. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane with pilot cars in operation.

Expect the following:

  • Flaggers directing traffic
  • Lane closures
  • Pilot vehicles guiding vehicles through the work zone
  • Speed limit reduced to 35 mph

We encourage you to plan accordingly and allow extra travel time.

Ousel Falls Road – Striping Update
We were notified today by the Rural Improvement District (RID) administrator, Morrison-Maierle, that they have secured a new contractor and will be striping the Town Center portion of Ousel Falls this weekend (Friday through Sunday, June 27 – 29).

The original contractor experienced several delays and was unable to complete the work before July 1. We appreciate your patience as we worked with the RID administrator to ensure the striping was rescheduled and completed as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as these essential roadway improvements take place. Construction schedules are at the discretion of the Montana Department of Transportation and subject to change. PAINT UNDER THE BIG SKY!

Big Sky comes alive with artists painting everywhere in the third annual

Paint Under the Big Sky.

BIG SKY, MT, June 23, 2025

They are back!  You may see artists painting anywhere in Big Sky and the Gallatin Canyon for the third annual Paint Under the Big Sky from now until the end of June.  Twenty-eight artists from across the nation are painting in the area between Spanish Creek Road to Taylor Fork Road, capturing the beauty and majesty theBig Sky area has to offer.

The opening reception for the public is Saturday evening, June 28, from 5-8PM. Artist awards, compliments of The Lone Mountain Land Company and others, will be conferred at 6PM. This event is an opportunity to meet the artists as well as to have “first pick” of the beautiful creations.

Paintings will be displayed and sold through July 31 at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio and Gallery at 88 Ousel Falls Road.

Plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, where artists paint landscapes on location outdoors in one or more sittings. Plein air painters have become an important historical resource to record and capture local scenery with emotion and passion for future generations.

Plein Air Kids 2025 returns this year where 36 children, ages 6-15, will complete a plein air painting. Registration for this event is still open, so swing by the gallery to pick up a free painting kit for each child. Kid’spaintings will be offered for display and sale at the Arts Council of Big Sky, 77 Lone Peak Drive on Friday, June 27 from 4-6pm.  Awards will be announced at 5pm.  Each painting will sell for $30 (with $25 going back to theyoung artist).  Student artists, friends and families are encouraged to attend and support these young artists.

All June: Photographs by Ryan Drewes & Monoprints by Marybeth Morand at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio & Gallery

In June we will feature new work from two very active members of the Big Sky Artists Collective: Ryan Drewes and Marybeth Morand. Ryan Drewes large photographs bring Rustic Americana to life and MB Morand’s monoprints are a fresh and unique take on Rodeo Memories.

Both shows are nostalgic reminders of simpler days, rodeos, and the summer season.

We hope you’ll stop in to see this new original work and to also view new work from the permanent members of the Studio and Gallery.

We will be hosting our FIRST FRIDAY summer evening on

Friday June 6 from 5 – 7PM.

We welcome locals and visitors to come by for sips and bits and an opportunity to meet and support the artists who make up the Big Sky Artists Collective.

The Gallery is now on summer hours, open daily from 11 – 6PM, and later, depending on weather, on Farmers Market Wednesdays.
