The Waypoint: 10th Annual Big Sky Winter Shootout Film & Photo Festival

April 3 @ 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

10th Annual Big Sky Winter Shootout Film & Photo Festival

The highly anticipated 10th Annual Big Sky Winter Shootout, presented by Second Season, is set to return on April 3, 2025, at Big Sky Waypoint. This premier film and photography festival is a full on visual celebration of Big Sky’s mountain community and culture. It pays tribute to our local customs and traditions, gives voice to social issues, showcases the work and talents of the many creatives that call this place home, and does it all with a smile, a tear and a laugh.

Since its inception, the Big Sky Winter Shootout has grown into a must-attend event for locals and visitors alike. This year’s festival will showcase captivating short films and stunning photography that highlights the many sides and stories of Big Sky life from this winter. After each showing the audience will vote for their favorite films and photos to decide which teams will take home the coveted Live People’s Choice Awards. Showtimes are 5pm, 6:30pm and 8pm in The Big Theater. The Big Sky Shootout awards ceremony will take place at 9:15pm on the stage in the Waypoint Lounge.

“We are pulling out all the stops for the 10-year anniversary celebration,” said Erik Morrison (CEO of Second Season and producer of The Big Sky Shootout Film & Photo Festival). “ Big Sky Shootout legend Brian Stumpf will be performing on The Waypoint lounge stage and keeping the vibe alive between showings from 5-8 PM. Brian has played a key part in Shootout history as one of the original cast members of the Skylab Media House classics Higher Love I & II. It’s quite fitting that he is playing and part of the 10 year anniversary show.”

A staple of Big Sky’s live music scene for nearly 15 years, Brian Stumpf delivers an engaging one-man acoustic show featuring his favorite covers spanning all decades of rock music. With a vocational degree in music theory, he blends revelry, humor, and a deep appreciation for mountain and ski culture into his performances.

The celebration continues after the awards ceremony at 9:15 PM, where the entire community is invited to hit the dance floor in style at the FREE Big Sky Prom themed afterparty with DJs Take A Chance & Nat Jio. Hailing from Big Sky, Montana, Take A Chance brings an electrifying genre-blending approach to the dance floor, ensuring an unforgettable night. His dynamic stage presence will keep the crowd energized, spinning an eclectic mix of House, Tech House, Techno, Dubstep, and Psytrance.

Chance, a Shootout legend in his own right, left his mark on one of the most progressive films of its time, Snow Dreams by Skylab Media House, taking home the 2018 People’s Choice Award for best film.

“The Shootout is near and dear to my heart,” said Chance Lenay (Take A Chance). “It’s a real honor to be part of the 10 year celebration, and we are going to do it in style! I’ve always wanted to do a Big Sky Prom themed show and the stars finally aligned with this year’s anniversary. It’s the perfect pairing to celebrate our core community, culture and traditions.”

For those who can’t make the live premiere on April 3rd there will be an option to view and vote for your favorite Shootout submissions for the Online People’s Choice Awards. All of the 2025 films and photos will be available during the voting period April 4th-29th, 2025. Winners will be announced at secondseasonco.com and on Second Season’s Instagram and Facebook on April 30th.
