DESCRIPTION:Please join the Arts Council of Big Sky for the second concert of the 2025 Music in the Mountains free summer concerts with a performance from John “Papa” Gros! \nWe are beyond excited to continue a summer full of incredible music with the legendary sounds of New Orleans’ own John “Papa” Gros. The concert takes place in Len Hill Park in the Big Sky Town Center and is family-friendly and free! Food and beverage vendors will be available. Please remember that NO DOGS\, NO GLASS CONTAINERS\, and most importantly\, NO PERSONAL FIREWORKS are allowed in the park. The park opens at 6 p.m.\, with music starting from our emerging artist “Strumbucket” at 6:30 p.m. John “Papa” Gros takes the stage at 8 p.m. \nTonight’s Headlining Band\nJohn “Papa” Gros\nNew Orleans has its fair share of musical ambassadors\, but few are more rooted in the cracked sidewalks and popping speakers of the Crescent City than John “Papa” Gros. Born and raised in the city\, Gros melds funk\, rock\, jazz\, and blues to deliver a sound that is both innovative and unmistakably New Orleans. \nGros launched his career as a solo performer in the early 1990s\, quickly gaining attention from marquee artists such as George Porter Jr. and Snooks Eaglin\, both of whom brought him on board as a supporting musician. As he sat behind the keys\, backing up some of the city’s most iconic musicians\, he soaked in a lifetime of experience and continued to develop his craft. He released his solo debut\, Day’s End\, in 2004. The next dozen years would be dedicated to leading and recording six albums with his band\, Papa Grows Funk. He returned to solo work with 2016’s River’s On Fire and cemented his legacy as a part of the direct lineage of New Orleans music with 2020’s Central City. \nIn keeping with the energy and spirit the Big Easy is known for\, Gros is a consummate live performer. His infectious band shows have been the highlight of festivals and venues across the U.S. and Europe\, showcasing versatile musicianship\, relentless grooves\, and eclectic songcraft of the highest order. Drawing on the full breadth and depth of his extensive catalog\, Gros’ live performance marries style with substance\, bringing that unique\, can’t-put-your-finger-on-it magic of New Orleans and infusing the audience with a joyous energy few artists can match. \nTonight’s Emerging Artist\nStrumbucket\nKicking off the evening at 6:30 p.m. is Strumbucket\, a rising force in the jamgrass scene that blends foot-stomping bluegrass with funk\, rock\, and a playful spirit that’s uniquely their own. Known for their high-energy shows\, quirky personality\, and creative musicianship\, Strumbucket’s performances are as tight as they are wild\, promising a set that’s sure to get the crowd moving. DESCRIPTION:They are back!  You may see artists painting anywhere in Big Sky and the Gallatin Canyon for the third annual Paint Under the Big Sky from now until the end of June.  Twenty-eight artists from across the nation are painting in the area between Spanish Creek Road to Taylor Fork Road\, capturing the beauty and majesty the Big Sky area has to offer. \nThe opening reception for the public is Saturday evening\, June 28\, from 5-8PM. Artist awards\, compliments of The Lone Mountain Land Company and others\, will be conferred at 6PM. This event is an opportunity to meet the artists as well as to have “first pick” of the beautiful creations. \nPaintings will be displayed and sold through July 31 at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio and Gallery at 88 Ousel Falls Road. \nPlein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”\, where artists paint landscapes on location outdoors in one or more sittings. Plein air painters have become an important historical resource to record and capture local scenery with emotion and passion for future generations. \nPlein Air Kids 2025 returns this year where 36 children\, ages 6-15\, will complete a plein air painting.  Registration for this event is still open\, so swing by the gallery to pick up a free painting kit for each child. DESCRIPTION:Courtney Collins Fine Art is thrilled to announce the upcoming exhibition of renowned artist Dennis Bredow\, titled Striking West. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, July 2\, from 5 PM to 7 :30 pm for an evening of art\, inspiration\, and community as we celebrate with Dennis.  \nThis series of ten large-scale mixed media paintings is inspired by vintage Western matchbooks—small objects once found on motel nightstands\, bar counters\, and diner tables. Designed to be both useful and promotional\, matchbooks were utilitarian by nature yet often beautifully crafted\, evoking a sense of place and memory though limited by a few square inches. This body of work seeks to do the same—creating artifacts that draw the viewer in and offer a memory of a place and time. By dramatically increasing the scale\, these paintings invite us to pause and truly see what we might otherwise dismiss.

The concert takes place in Len Hill Park in the Big Sky Town Center and is family-friendly and free! Food and beverage vendors will be available. The Park opens at 6 p.m.\, with music starting from emerging artist Ben Larson at 6:30 p.m. Yarn will take the stage at 8 p.m. \nTonight’s Headlining Band\nYarn\nYarn’s ability to persevere ought to come as no great surprise\, especially for a band that spent two years honing their chops during a Monday night residency at the famed Kenny’s Castaway in New York’s Greenwich Village. In effect\, it allowed them to rehearse onstage\, mostly in front of audiences that often ranged in size from five to a hundred people on any given night. Five studio albums followed — Yarn (2007)\, Empty Pockets (2008)\, Come On In (2010)\, Almost Home (2012)\, and Shine the Light On (2013). The band then took to the road\, playing upwards of 170 shows a year and sharing stages with such superstars as Dwight Yoakam\, Charlie Daniels\, Marty Stuart\, Allison Krauss\, Leon Russell\, Jim Lauderdale\, and The Lumineers\, eventually surpassing 1\,000 shows\, half a million miles\, and performances in nearly every state. \nIndeed\, the accolades piled up quickly along the way. Yarn has landed on the Grammy ballot four times\, garnered nods from the Americana Music Association\, placed top five on both Radio and Records and the AMA album charts\, received airplay on Sirius FM\, iTunes\, Pandora\, CNN\, and CMT\, and was even awarded the “Download of the Day” by Rolling Stone. Their ability to connect with audiences through heartfelt lyrics and genuine stage presence continues to earn them a devoted following across the country. \nTonight’s Emerging Artist\nBen Larson\nBen Larson developed his storyteller ways over years of hitchhiking and wandering with his guitar from Australia to Newfoundland and a thousand places in between. DESCRIPTION:The Big Sky Summer Farmers Market is held every Wednesday June-Septemberfrom from 5:00 – 8:00pm at Fire Pit Park\, down Town Center Ave. and into the Town Center Plaza at the Town Center. Every year vendors\, including local/regional farmers\, professional artisans\, young artists/entrepreneurs\, and community organizations come to Big Sky with a goal of helping to foster and maintain a market that is true to our Big Sky mountain culture. \nThe Fall Market Fall runs every Wednesday in September at the Town Center Plaza with a focus on the Fall harvest and seasonal supplies by local Big Sky and South West Montanan farmers and artisans.
