Big Sky features the Biggest Skiing in America, thanks to the LonePeak Passaccessing Big Sky Resort and MoonlightBasin terrain. The Big Sky Resort-Moonlight Basininterconnect gives you access to more skiing than anywhere else in the United States! With the Lone Peak Pass,you can access 5,512 skiable acres and endless ways to navigate 4,350 feet ofvertical drop. At 11,166 feet it's easy to see Lone Peak'sappeal to every age and level of skier and boarder. Runs up to six mileslong and glades and bowls covered in 400-plus inches of annual snowfall provides something for everyone!
Big Sky Resortis consistently ranked in the top 10 best resorts in NorthAmerica. Additionally, the London Sunday Times ranked Big Sky inthe top 10 resorts in the world. Big Sky is at a higher elevation (base area7,500 feet, top of Lone Mountain 11,166 feet) and a higher latitude (45-deg)than most other ski resorts, so it is less likely to be affected by any climate warming. The Resort has more than 3,800 acres of ski terrain, with 150 runs covering over 85 miles on three separate mountains, and is consistently recognized in national ski magazines for short or non-existent lines on any oftheir 24 lifts.
The Resort also offers several programs for skiers and their families. The Family Fun Zone located near the MountainVillage plaza will offer teens and adults a thrilling activity once the lifts stop running. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the Family Fun Zone is home to an improved tube park serviced by the 500 foot long Adrian’sWay carpet lift. New this season, a small terrain park with boxes, rails andkickers will entertain riders under the lights in the zone. There are also terrain parks, snowsports school, and after hours kids Clubhouse with additional activities.
At Moonlight Basin you can experience the best of Montana Hospitality – genuine homegrown service, lifts without lines, and open uncrowded terrain. With picture-perfect groomers and challenging off-piste steeps, Moonlight Basin’s trails cater toall skill levels. Here, skiers and riders spread their wings in the terrain park, join small friendly classes, or just warm up in our cozy lodge orfull-service spa.
On the mountain at Moonlight skiers and snowboarders can enjoy over 1,900 acres of terrain accessed by 7 lifts, with a total vertical of 4,150 feet. Moonlight Basin’s SnowSports School offers ski and snowboard instruction and clinics for children and adults. In addition, Moonlight Kids integrates daycare and ski or snowboard instruction for children.
While Moonlight Basin’s abundant, dry Rocky Mountain snow makes for excellent skiing and snowboarding, there’s more than one way to enjoy winter’s guaranteed white stuff. This year, Moonlight Basin introduced the Blazing Saddles Sledding Hill, located near the Madison Village Base Area. Here, sleds will be available for rent, so anyone with a warm coat and a pair of snow boots can make the most of the snow. For those looking for a peaceful alternative to skiing, a new snowshoeing trail begins near the Moonlight Lodge and winds through three quiet miles of wintry natural beauty. Moonlight Basin also boasts a lakeside snowshoeing trail, which begins at the Madison base area and loops around the enchanting Ulreys Lake. Other programs people can enjoy at Moonlight basin include Yoga on the Deck, Search and Rescue Dog Demonstrations, Wildlife Talks, Apres Ski Music, and Church in the Pines.
Big Sky is also home to miles of perfectly-groomed cross country skiing trails, especially those at the legendary Lone Mountain Ranch. Lone Mountain Ranch has been one of the top full service Nordic Ski Resorts in North America for over thirty years. The Ranch welcomes both week-long and day visitors to use over 85 kilometers of cross country ski trails, meticulously groomed for beginners and experts alike.
In addition to ski trails, the Ranch offers ski lessons for all ages and abilities, rental equipment for classis, skate and backcountry skiing, naturalist guided ski tours into the interior of Yellowstone Park and Northwest Corner, snowshoeing, Outdoor Youth Adventures forchildren ages 4-18 and guided fly fishing trips with ORVIS Endorsed guides. Dining is a favorite with Big Sky locals and the Dining Lodge is open for breakfast, skier's lunches and dinner. The Ranch began Big Sky's original dinner sleighride over twenty years ago and it is still a "must do" when visiting the area.
Getting tothe slopes is also easier than ever this year, with the Park-n-Ride bus program implemented by Skyline Bus and Big Sky TownCenter. You can park your vehicle on Aspen Leaf Drive at Town Center and enjoy a free shuttle bus to directly to the slopes. There are connections to Moonlight and a stop at Lone Mountain Ranch as well. What better way to save on gas and money, and always get the perfect parking spot?
