Every other Thursday from July 9-September 17 was an adventure as the first season of the Big Sky Farmers Market rolled through the Town Center.
When the planning started during the winter, our expectations were to contact as many potential vendors as possible, thinking we would start with 30-40 vendors for the season. When that number came and went, we realized how big this event was becoming. In the end, we had nearly 160 vendors signed up that came at different times throughout the season. We added the fun of the bounce houses and, with the help of great community members, booked musical entertainment as well.
Bi-weekly, over 100 vendors braved the weather to participate. By the end of the season regular shoppers were returning for their fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, lawn ornaments, souvenirs and artwork. People satisfied their appetites with wood fired pizza, gyros, shaved ice, desserts and great grilled offerings from local restaurants and catering companies. We thank you for participating, some traveling a good distance to experiement with our first season.
There has been so much great feedback from the community and the vendors who participated, that we would like to share a few comments with you:
“The Big Sky Farmer’s Market is a breath of fresh air for the community and visitor’s alike. Thank you.” - Cariline, Half Moon Saloon“It was a great opportunity to connect with the community and to meet vendors from out of town. Gave us a real sense of “place.” Music was great as well! And so carefully planned out and executed. I look forward to doing it again next summer.” - Hannah Johansen“We travel to a lot of different events during the summer from small fairs to big festivals such as Evel Knievel Days and the Big Sky market is still one of my favorite events. The setting doesn’t get any better and the people are always very nice and courteous. “
- Clint Deardorff, Rocky Mountain Kettle Corn We couldn’t have done it without the volunteers who came to the winter planning meetings and came on Thursdays to help set up, check-in vendors and clean up.
We also want to thank all of the local residents, as well as the visitors who came to patronize the market, making it worthwhile for the many vendors. It is great to see the community come together and enjoy the event.
As fall sets in and winter approaches, we will gather our thoughts and everyone’s suggestions and make plans for next season. See you all next summer!
