Ophir School's hard-working 8th grade class raised $1,000 in tips for their Washington D.C. trip at La Luna two weeks ago. Now they return (with twice as much experience!) to the Half Moon Saloon on Thursday, February 11. Basketball lovers will be particularly interested in this event as it offers in the ultimate in after-game dining convenience.
"The kids will start serving at around 5:30-- about the time the home game ends," says organizer and mom Diane Bartzick. "What a great idea to celebrate the game with a family meal afterwards that supports the 8th grade." The Half Moon Saloon is renowned for its barbecue, game and fish specialties, and its location right across from the school can't be beat, says Bartzick. "Caroline takes her location literally. She is a great neighbor to the school in every way," says Bartzick. "She is always willing to help with any school event." The Half Moon event, like the La Luna one hosted by the Ross family, will also include a silent auction for a private chef French cuisine dinner prepared by our Middle School teachers Nettie Breuner and Cameron Johnson who have both worked and trained as chefs. If you are unable to attend the evening and wish to place a bid on this great prize you can contact Diane Bartzick at 995-2395.
Because Ophir opened a cafeteria this year (eliminating the ability for the kids to sell lunch as a fundraiser) the current 8th grade has had to have been creative in their fund-raising and have been learning first-hand how much it takes to earn money for their trip. In addition to working for tips, the kids have been babysitting, snow shoveling, selling concessions and doing even odder jobs--like decorating the town center ice rink for theme nights.
