Meet Scot Schmidt, Yellowstone Club’s new ski ambassador and one of extreme skiing’s pioneers. Schmidt grew up in Montana City, Mont., skiing all over the state, mostly at both Bridger and Big Sky, and discovered the thrills of ski racing at age 14. When he was 19, Scot moved to Squaw Valley, Calif. to pursue racing, and supported himself by tuning skis at a local ski shop.
His deft skiing on precarious slopes caught the attention of a crewmember for action filmmaker Warren Miller, and soon Scot was making turns on film. Scot’s smooth moves in his first Warren Miller film, “Ski Time,” led to 10 years of appearing in films for Warren Miller Entertainment as well as other producers. “I am having a blast,” Scot says about his inaugural season as Yellowstone Club’s Ski Ambassador. He is excited about the opportunity to expand the club’s skiing program -- skiing with members and guests, leading member excursions, and increasing athlete and industry relations at what he calls “a very special place.”
The Yellowstone Club Community Foundation, Inc. was established in December of 2009 to provide a resource to non-profit community organizations in the Greater Big Sky and Gallatin Valley area. Funded by members, friends, ownership and management of Yellowstone Club, YCCF will provide grants to eligible organizations that promote community service, education and conservation. YCCF will hold two major events - during the winter and summer seasons to raise funds for its grants program. An initial fundraising drive began in early 2010.
