If you are looking for some southern soul food, that is exactly what you will find when you visit The Bluebird Café, the newest addition to the Big Sky Town Center. The Café is located at 118 Ousel Falls Rd in the Goode Place Building (former Huckleberry location).
The Café will be open at 7am Tuesday – Sunday, serving delicious breakfasts including: fresh biscuits, begniets, and Belgian waffles. One of the highlights on the menu will be the cheesy grits, and for those of you from the South, these are like your mama makes! Not just any grits, the Antebellum grits are authentic Southern!
The Bluebird is owned and operated by Scott and Alex Hoeksema of Big Sky, also owner/operators of the Lotus Pad Asian restaurant. Alex is from San Francisco, CA, where she attended culinary school. Fellow Chef, Marcie Fitch, will manage the kitchen and later on will establish the nightly bar menu.
The atmosphere at The Bluebird Café will be an eclectic, urban diner. The décor will feature murals by local artists Katie Powell, Mary Dessesasure and James Clark. Even the mugs being used for coffee are eclectic, collected from members of the Big Sky community.
“We wanted to have a local establishment, but we don’t want it to feel like you are in a small ski town when you walk in.”, said Alex.
And speaking of coffee, are you yearning for some real, black, “jump start your heart” java from the big city? Well, coffee lovers, the day has come! The Bluebird will be serving up Crema Coffee and French Press coffee – roasted to order.
By this spring, Alex and Scott are planning to expand the menu to include lunch and bar food at night. They want to have pre and post concert parties with live music and soulful barbeque. Watch for the expanding menu options and the opening of the drive-thru window.
And by the way, Scott and Alex would like to warn you – “Ditch the belts, your pants will grow when you eat at The Bluebird Café!”
