The Creighton Block Gallery, located in the Market Place building on Lone Peak Drive, opened in early December 2010. The open and light atmosphere is instantly inviting and draws you in.
Featured painters at the gallery include Russell Chatham, Thomas English, Paula Pearl, Jim Barrett, Laurie Stevens, Todd Connor, Shirle Norquist and Mike Patterson. The gallery also sells bronzes by several well-known Montana sculptors; 19th century Native American artifacts; contemporary Native American work; fine handcrafts and one-of-a-kind jewelry.
Owners, Colin and Paula Mathews have lived in Virginia City for the past 13 years and still own a gallery there in an 1867 stone building that is on the National Historic Register. Colin was Mayor of Virginia City for four years, served on the Montana Heritage Commission for four years, and was recently re-appointed to another term. He also served on the Madison County Economic Development Council for 10 years.
The Mathews decided to move to Big Sky because of the exciting energy emerging in Big Sky and the enormous cultural potential here. They look forward to contributing to the realization of Big Sky Town Center's commercial and cultural goals, and to becoming involved in the life of this marvelous community.
The gallery hours are 11:30 AM - 6:30 PM 6 days (Tues. - Sun.) and Mondays by appointment. You can contact the gallery at 406-993-9400.
